Obituary

Agnes Cook VanAlstyne, 84, of Brunswick, passed away late Friday evening at Gracemore Nursing & Rehabilitation.

Funeral services will be held from the gravesite at Chapel Park Cemetery on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, 11:00am with Pastor Nick Roundtree officiating.

Mrs. VanAlstyne was born April 3, 1937, in Hartford, CT, to John Elbert and Lila Elizabeth Russell Cook.  She had lived in Brunswick since 1970, and was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church.  She worked in the proof department of SunTrust Bank, retiring in 1997, prior to her banking career, she worked with the Glynn County School System.  In her early years, she was an avid bowler, in later years, she enjoyed crafting, and going to gospel sings.

Survivors include her children, Linda Copeland of Brunswick, Don VanAlstyne (Tammy) of Raleigh, NC, a brother, Frank Cook (Joanne) of Florida, grandchildren, Mike Copeland (Sharee) and Michelle Branch (Robert), all of Brunswick, great grandchildren, Camryn Copeland, Eric Walden, and Cassy Walden and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceeded in death by her parents, Elbert & Lila Cook, a son-in-law, William 'Steve' Copeland, her husband, Tommy 'Capt. Van' VanAlstyne, a brother, Russell Cook, a sister-in-law, Myrna Cook, and a granddaughter Kelly VanAlstyne.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
