Obituary

Barbara J. Jeffries, 69, of Brunswick, GA sadly passed away on May 26, 2025, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Barb was born to the late Allie and late Audie Hedgspeth on June 20, 1955, in Indianapolis, IN where she graduated from Manual High School.
Shortly after graduation, she began what was believed to be a short-lived job at Blue Cross of Indiana. She would go on to work 43 years for many different divisions and departments in locations across Indianapolis for the company that eventually became best known as Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Indiana. While she never felt important, she was known to be excellent with customers and colleagues alike and became mentor and friend to many.

Barb was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and was known to many people not related as "Grandma Barb". She loved to craft and was always coming up with a new project to paint, glue, cut or stamp. She really enjoyed putting smiles on faces by giving hand crafted gifts. She also loved an adventure whether it be driving in the country taking a random turn just to see what's there or planned trips especially to see historical spots. It became understood that she needed to read every brown sign or historical marker. She especially enjoyed visiting old cemeteries historical or not. Ultimately, she was able to explore 30 states and 8 countries. But arguably her greatest love was animals especially dogs. Whether it was a stray dog, a bunny at the fair or riding and feeding elephants in Africa, she had a huge heart for animals.

Barb had a caring heart for all and was loved by so many as has been evidenced by outpouring of love she has received during her battle. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Paul (Rich) Jeffries, Jr.; daughter Lindsay (Steven) Foddrill of Ludowici, GA; grandchildren Stephanie Adams serving in the US Navy in Jacksonville, FL, Samuel Adams of Allenhurst, GA and Joshua Foddrill serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Nimitz; brother Dale (Diana) Hedgspeth of Advance, NC; sister Joyce Behle of Tucson, AZ; in-laws Paul (Ethel) Jeffries, Sr.; brother-in-law James (Melissa) Jeffries and sister-in-law Elizabeth (Lance) Abbott as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. She is also survived by her best buddy, protector and favorite child, Mack the dog.

A celebration of life service will be held June 7, 2025, with informal gathering beginning at 1pm and formal service at 3:30 at The Chapman Event Center, 6045 Golden Isles Parkway. The entirety of the service will be southern formal (dress shorts and polo). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia (https://hsscg.org/donate/) or adopt an older dog in her honor.

Special thanks go out to her sister Joyce for moving into her house to be co-primary caregiver. Barb and Rich very much appreciated the time she was able to spend with Joyce as well as the loving care she provided.
