Obituary

Carl Grady Conaway, Sr., 86, of Brunswick, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at 3:00pm, at Chapman Funeral Chapel with Brother Michael Batten officiating. Interment, with full military honors provided by the United States Air Force, will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery at Mt. Pleasant. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Chapman Funeral Chapel from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening.
Mr. Conaway was born May 9, 1931, in Tifton, GA, to Henry Grady Conaway and Florene Marchant Conaway. He served for four years with the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. He then joined the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart, and retiring after 23 years of service. After retirement from the Air Force in 1976, the Conaway's moved to Brunswick, where Mr. Conaway began working at FLETC as a radio and audio technician. He retired from FLETC in 1999. Mr. Conaway enjoyed hunting, astrology, and competitive archery, for which he won numerous trophies.
Survivors include his children, Carl G. Conaway, Jr. (Tracy) of Darien, and Syndie Conaway (Joe) of Brunswick, sisters, Mary Spell of Brunswick, and Linda Hunt of Longwood, FL, 4 grandchildren, Matthew Tyre (Jennifer), Brandice Choi (Bruce), Brian Acree, Amanda Conaway, 7 great grandchildren, Dorian Mitchell, Anthony Abato, Evin Zakrzewski, Corey Tyre, Cassidy Tyre, Callie Conaway, and Colby Brooks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Hope Spell, a daughter, Darette Acree, and a sister, Darette Harper.
