Charlotte Jones Boyd, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away at her home on June 25th, 2025 at the age of 89. Charlotte was born to Alberta Marie Jones and Francis Boykin Jones on May 9th, 1936 in Savannah, Georgia. As a young girl, Charlotte attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in downtown Brunswick and was often reprimanded for riding her horse, Captain, to school. Charlotte graduated from Glynn Academy in 1955. After graduation, Charlotte moved from Brunswick to Montgomery, Alabama to attend Huntingdon College where she would meet her future husband, Roy Jerome Boyd in the spring of 1958. The couple was married on November 1, 1958. She often joked that she decided to marry Roy because he had a horse. Charlotte graduated from Huntingdon College in 1958 with a degree in Home Economics. After graduation, Charlotte worked at the Alabama Department of Health and participated in field studies of polio epidemiology with trials and research of the Salk polio vaccine. Roy and Charlotte moved back to Savannah, Georgia and welcomed their two children into the world - Roy Jerome Boyd Jr. on October 17, 1959 and Karen Marie Boyd on September 27, 1960.

Catalyzed by a love of learning and inspired by her time working with the polio vaccine, Charlotte became a teacher and spent three decades educating Glynn County's youth. Charlotte spent most of her career teaching science in the Glynn County Public School System and at Frederica Academy. She was part of the inaugural staff at Frederica Academy and was proud to be part of the school's founding.

Outside of her teaching career, Charlotte's love for animals was a huge part of her life. Her love of animals big and small developed at a very early age. This lead to her and Roy's eventual move to their beloved farm where they raised hundreds of cows, goats, horses, peacocks, and guineas and rescued countless cats and dogs in the 40 years they resided at Bull Island. Charlotte and Roy were active volunteers with Leaps and Bounds of Glynn County, hosting special needs children for equine and animal therapies at their farm. Charlotte was an active member of the horse community, notably the 4H and Southeast Georgia Horse Show Association, and spent countless weekends showing horses with her grandchildren.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Charlotte will remember her unwavering love and commitment to her family and friends, her deep-rooted faith in Jesus, her uncanny wit, and her voice of wisdom.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Alberta Jones, her sister Bernice Jones, her husband Roy J. Boyd Sr., and her daughter Karen Boyd. Charlotte is survived by her sister Alice Reeves (Billy), son, Roy J. Boyd Jr. (Jimmie), three grandchildren, Caroline Furlong (Ross), Charlotte Anne Boyd (Parker), and Roy J. Boyd III., and two great-grandsons, Banks and Brooks Furlong.
