Donald Hughes Smith, 82. of Brunswick, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2024, at his residence.

Services will be held Tuesday, May 28, at 6:00PM at Chapman Funeral Chapel. Reverend Derrall Joiner will be officiating. A visitation will follow the service until 8:00PM. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Donald was born July 9, 1941, in Douglas, GA to Simon and Lillian Rhymes Smith.  He had lived in Brunswick since 1952, attending Glynn County Schools.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during Vietnam.  He retired from Babcock & Wilcox as a welder in 1982, and went to work for Georgia Pacific in the Gypsum Division, until his retirement.  Donald enjoyed fishing, goofing off with his friends, going to old car shows, and antique shopping.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Peggy Riner Smith, their children, Sherry Smith Gibson (Don), and Thomas Donald Smith, all of Brunswick, grandchildren, Dustin Smith, Paige Smith, and Brandon Gibson (Megan), great grandchildren, Birdie, Hazel, and Sydney, a brother, Otis Smith, sisters, Brenda Smith Capps, and Linda Smith Altman, and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Julius Smith.
