Obituary

Dorothy Marie Coates Dixon, 82, of Brunswick, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus.

A service honoring and celebrating her remarkable life will be held on Saturday, November 29th, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to service time at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Gary Fouche officiating.

Dorothy, affectionately known as Dot, was born on September 9, 1943, in Brunswick, GA to Henry William "Red" Coates and Mary "Velma" Lancaster Coates. She was a proud graduate of Glynn Academy, Class of 1961. On June 23, 1963, Dorothy was united in marriage to her best friend and love of her life, Wayne Dixon.

A devoted wife and mother, Dorothy lovingly dedicated many years to creating a warm and nurturing home for her family. As a stay at home mother, she poured her heart into raising her son Greg, surrounding him with faith, encouragement, and unconditional love. Her home was always open, not only to family, but to Greg's many friends where everyone was made to feel welcome and cared for (even including all the stray animals Greg would bring home). She cherished her role as wife and mother.

In 2003, after 13 years of service, Dorothy retired from MAP international, a Christian organization providing lifesaving medicine, health supplies, and medical devices to people all over the world. In 2006, she and her beloved husband relocated to the serene countryside of South Carolina to embrace their well-earned retirement. Though she and Wayne loved their home in South Carolina, they returned to Brunswick in 2017 to be closer to their beloved grandchildren, cherished family, and lifelong friends.

Dot shared an especially close bond with her sisters, nieces, and nephews who adored her. Family gatherings were among her greatest joys. They were filled with laughter, storytelling, and homemade meals and sweets. She treasured time spent celebrating milestones, holidays, and every day moments alike.

Dot's heart overflowed with love and hospitality. She lived by the principle "It is better to give than to receive". She was seldom far from the kitchen, where she joyfully baked  countless sweets and lovingly prepared meals. Her passions encompassed reading, traveling, and immersing herself in the wonders of nature outdoors, yet nothing brought her greater delight than her role as "Grandma".

Above all, Dorothy loved and served Jesus Christ. Her faith was the foundation of her life and the light that guided all she did. She was a devoted member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church and later Calvary Baptist Church in Brunswick. She continued her attendance at local congregations in South Carolina. When she could no longer attend church, she faithfully watched services online. She lived each day with a servant's heart, extending kindness to everyone she encountered and radiating joy wherever she went. Her love for family, generous spirit, and steadfast faith create a legacy that will endure for generations.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Herbert "Wayne" Dixon; their son, Greg Dixon (Stephanie); and their precious grandchildren, Abigail, Elijah, Judah, and Jennalynn Dixon. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Harry Easterling (Charlotte), and several nieces and nephews: Brett (Angela, Clayton, Luke) Easterling, Corey Easterling (Katy), Angie Smith (Brinson, Kayla, Haley, Parker), Alison Snipes (Steven, Amelia, Colin) and Amy Shiver (Meredith).

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary Kay Easterling and Betty Poppell Ryfun; brother-in-law Michael Poppell and Mike Ryfun; and beloved nieces Jessica Wilson (Jon, Andy) and Emily Shiver.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dorothy's name can be made to either the Skylark Clinic, Inc. of Brunswick or Georgia Hospice, also in Brunswick, GA.
