Jekyll Island

Obituary

Edward C. Norman, born February 19, 1934 to Christian and Mary Norman in Amityville, NY died peacefully 8/26/2022 at his home on Jekyll Island, Ga.

Ed had a voracious intellectual curiosity which allowed him to enter Dartmouth College at the tender age of 16, graduating in 1954 with an AB in chemistry. He married Helen Patricia Springsteen 5/8/1955. Soon after their wedding he traveled to Panama for service in the U.S. Army until 1956. Ed's professional life involved development of protein based firefighting foams and delivery systems. His work took him all over the globe and he received multiple patents for the creation of novel compounds. He continued consultant work until his death. Ed enjoyed golf, a good laugh, mellow bourbon, the NY Giants-which he never accepted the move to California and hunting the high ridge, a hobby that took him on horseback to wilds of the Wyoming mountains. A favorite trip of Ed's was boating down the Canal du Midi in the South of France with family. On one such trip his children and grandchildren affectionately dubbed him "Captain Ahab."

Ed is survived by his wife Pat, children Audrey, Christian & Tracy; Grandchildren William Tribendis, Phil Norman, Andrew Tribendis, Jason Norman, Elizabeth McMurdo and 2 great grandchildren Sammy and Charlie Tribendis all who will sorely miss him. Memorial service to be determined.

Chapman Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
