Obituary

Elsie Herring Mobley, 85, of Brunswick, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 4, 2021. Elsie was born at home on Blythe Island on May 6, 1936 to Mary Lee Sumner Herring and Leroy B. Herring, Sr. She grew up on Blythe Island and was a lifelong resident of Glynn County.


Nothing was more important to Elsie than her family and her faith in God. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was a very special woman and will be greatly missed.
Elsie was preceded in death by her son, Russell Mobley (Linda). She is survived by her son, David Mobley (Jackie) and her daughters, Sherrie Polk and Jan Nichols, all of Brunswick. She was a beloved Granny to her 8 grandchildren, Erica Mobley, Chad Mobley, Lauren Inglis (Tony), Kayce Mobley, Erin Sikes (Brandon), Shannon Farlow (Alex), Dalton Polk and Katelyn Polk, and her 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Herring (Mary Ann) and is survived by her sister, Louise Morris (Marion) and her brother, Leroy Herring, Jr. (Joan) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was born into the First Wesleyan Church of Brunswick on Ellis Street and attended faithfully from her birth until the end of her life. She was baptized at the age of 11 and dedicated her life to God. She was on the church board, served as church secretary and taught Sunday School for 35 years. She loved hymns and gospel music and was song leader at church for 37 years.
She was a 1954 graduate of Glynn Academy and graduated from Perry Business School. When her children were young, she drove a school bus for the Glynn County Board of Education for 9 years. In 1974, she went to work as a secretary at Terminix Pest Control, where she worked for the Younce family until her retirement in 2001.
A graveside service to honor Elsie's life will be held at Palmetto Cemetery on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 10:00 am.
Pallbearers will be Chad Mobley, Dalton Polk, Tony Inglis, Brandon Sikes, Alex Farlow and Danny Rooks.
