Franklin Larry Evans of Brunswick, Ga., passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Jesup Health and Rehab. Our sincere thanks to staff and management for their loving care.

Larry was born May 23, 1946 in Calhoun, Ga. to Opal Hester Evans and Clyde Evans. He is survived by a sister Anita Evans Davis in Calhoun (husband Reed, their daughter Charlin Davis Hasty and her daughter Caroline).

He was a Salutatorian of the Calhoun High School Class of 1964, a member of the Beta Club, secretary and president of the Student Council, anchor of the Golf Team, and a member of the Calhoun High School Championship Debate Team.

Larry worked his way through Georgia Tech and practiced architecture in Atlanta until 1978 when he moved to Brunswick where he joined with John Tuten in designing schools and restoring several historic commercial buildings and residences. One notable example is the Senator Brantley House at 807 Dartmouth Street, where Larry resided and from which he provided architectural services for 30 years.

1986, Mr. Evans left the Tuten firm and focused his full attention on restoring the historic Jekyll Island Club main building and adapting it and two cottages for use as an award winning resort hotel.

In addition to historic rehabilitation of several houses and other buildings in Brunswick and on St Simons, Larry developed the concepts and architecture for numerous projects in the Golden Isles. Examples on St Simons include the Coast Cottages adjacent to the old Coast Guard Station, Mullet Bay and The Village Inn and Suites in Pier Village, the Village Creek Events facility, and several duplexes and single family cottages. The event building and pavilion in Mary Ross Park are an example of structures for use by the public.

Larry loved golf and taking care of his numerous pets over the years. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Humane Society.
