Grace Elizabeth Howard Wells Gowens, 92, of Brunswick, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Southeast Georgia Health System.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021, from 4:30 until 6:00, at Chapman Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held from the gravesite at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery in Hinesville on Friday, April 9, 2021, at 1:00 pm.
Grace was born January 3, 1929, in Hinesville, GA to David and Emma Fulton Howard. She had been a resident of Brunswick since 1960, and was of the Baptist faith. Grace enjoyed doing needlepoint and embroidery, watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Chanel 4 News, going to the Senior Center to visit with friends, and loved her dog 'shorty' and visiting with her grandbabies.
Grace is survived by her children, Emily Lavonne Bates O'Neal, Glenda Toler, and Nathan Wells (Connie), all of Brunswick, sisters, Willene Ray of Brunswick, Eleanor Gassett of Hinesville, and Rose McLamb of Savannah, grandchildren, Brenda Thornton (Robby), James 'Buddy' Toler Jr. (Melissa), Regina King (Randy), Christi Nettles (Allen), and Haley Chitty (Andy), 12 great grandchildren, 20 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Ned Wells, and Ira Gowens, a sister, Ethel Hardee, brothers, David 'Snooks' Howard, Richard Howard, JW Howard, a son-in-law, James Toler, and brothers-in-law, Elmer Ray, Henry Gassett, and Carnelle McLamb.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Brunswick Multi Purpose Center for the Elderly, 2007 'I' Street, Brunswick, GA 31520.
