Helen Walmsley Dailey

July 5, 1923 - May 19, 2022

Mrs. Helen W. Dailey, a longtime resident of Magnolia Manor on St. Simons Island, passed peacefully on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the age of 98.  Originally from Natchitoches, Louisiana, Helen was beloved by many including her outstanding care givers at Magnolia Manor, St Simons Island.

Helen attended two years of college at the Louisiana State Normal College in Natchitoches before the approach and beginning of World War II in 1941 interrupted her education.  Her young age prevented her from volunteering for the Women's Airforce Service.

She married her college sweetheart, Elmer Dailey, a career naval officer,  and Helen began what was to become an adventurous life as a military spouse which took her all over the country and the world for over 31 years.  She established households in Panama, Florida, Hawaii, California, Maryland, Rhode Island, Japan, Newfoundland Canada, Washington DC, Midway Island, Puerto Rico, and South Carolina among many other temporary locations.

In 1972 they retired to Florida and resided in a series of homes in Panama City, Fort Myers, Sanibel Island, New Smyrna Beach, and Melbourne before moving to assisted living at Magnolia Manor on St. Simons Island in 2009.

Helen was predeceased by Elmer,  her beloved husband of 74 years, in 2015, and is survived by her two sons,  Bill Dailey and his wife Cindy Brockwell of Floyd, Virginia;  Dale Dailey and his wife Janet of Brunswick, Maine;  two granddaughters,  Amanda Sawyer of Brunswick, Maine, and Lara Graf of Huntly, Illinois; a great grandson, Ian Sawyer, of Brunswick, Maine, and blended family grandson Brent Saunders and granddaughter Stephanie Sellers, and great grandchildren Hunter and Jake Sellers and Lucy and Nathaniel Saunders all of Richmond, Virginia.

A private family service will take place Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 2:30pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery with full military honors being provided.
