Henry Lamar Calhoun, Jr.

Henry Lamar Calhoun Jr., of Brunswick, formally of Macon and Thomasville, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones Monday August 24, 2026. “Lamar” was born on D Day, June 6th, 1944 in Lyons Georgia. He was proceeded in death by his son Jacob Bryan Calhoun, his mother, Helen S. Calhoun and his father Henry L. Calhoun Sr. He is survived by his wife Kathy B. Calhoun of 46 years, daughter Lyndsey Calhoun Gibson (Bryan Gibson), grandchildren: Samantha (13), Henry (10), and Ava (3); his brother Steve, two nephews Logan and Coleman Calhoun. Lamar was a loving and ever doting husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle always expressing his love and gratitude for his family.

Lamar attended military school in Macon at Lanier High School until 1962. He was in the Navy from 1966 until 1968, stationed in Orlando, Fl. He graduated from Middle Georgia College where he played on the basketball team and University of Georgia in 1971 with a degree in accounting. Lamar was employed by the Georgia State Patrol from 1975 until 2000, advancing from license examiner to post commander for Brunswick and Jekyll Island Patrol Posts. Lamar was a dedicated law enforcement officer who loved his job protecting communities. Lamar was a member of First Baptist Church in downtown Brunswick.

Lamar had a very active life with many interests and hobbies, he was an avid golfer winning the club championship in Thomasville, Ga. in 1973 at the Glen Arven Club, he served as secretary/ treasurer of the Oak Grove Men’s Golf Association for many years and enjoyed everyday spent on the courses with his friends and his daughter Lyndsey indoctrinating her into the golf world a young child. Lamar enjoyed deep sea fishing, skiing, boating, jet skiing, recreational scuba diving, leisurely long motorcycle trips including one around the tail of the dragon which included several states, traveling, dirt bike racing in his younger years. Lamar had great love of life and adventures living it to the fullest. Lamar was active right up until his last days cutting the grass and riding in the car for leisure never intending to slow down fully. His larger than life presence, sharp wit, and charismatic personality will be greatly missed keeping us laughing and jumping right up until the end. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026, 10:00am, at Uvalda Baptist Church with Rev. Adrian K Bell officiating. Burial will follow in the Uvalda Cemetery with Georgia State Patrol serving as pallbearers. A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, August 28, 2026, from 5:00 until 7:00pm, at Chapman Funeral Chapel in Brunswick, GA
