Herman Dwight Cook, 85, passed away December 11, 2024 at his home in Brunswick, Georgia.
He was born December 16, 1938 in Chauncey, Georgia, a son of the late Nathan G. Cook and
Lula Mae (Reaves) Cook. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Ruby Jean
Smith and Juanita White and his brothers Nathan Cook, Donald Cook and Freddie Cook.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Sylvia (Burnham) Cook, his sons Dwight Cook (Lynn) of
Loganville, Georgia and Philip Cook of Brunswick, Georgia. His grandchildren, Noah Cook
(Liberty) of Statham, Georgia; Cooper Cook of Loganville; Wells Cook of Valdosta, Georgia and
Tatum Cook of Valdosta, Georgia; a great-granddaughter Lennon Cook of Statham, Georgia;
two brothers, Ken Cook of Colorado and Ricky Cook of Eastman, Georgia; several nieces and
nephews and his beloved Yorkshire terrier Nick.
Herman was a son of sharecroppers and grew up near Chauncey. He attended school in Dodge
County through the tenth grade, when, due to illness, he left to work to help support his family.
He worked in the logging and sawmill business and worked as a laborer in bridge construction.
In 1959, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He later served many years in the Georgia
Air National Guard and retired in 1995 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He and his family
moved to Brunswick, Georgia in 1971, where he was employed for many years with the Georgia
Department of Transportation. In 1980, he went to work for Woodmen of the World, where he
was a Field Representative and later retired as an Area Manager. He was a member of the
Millionaire section of the Presidents Club and he was recognized for outstanding insurance
sales production. He served as Sunday School superintendent and was music director at
Beverly Shores Baptist Church for several years. He was an avid fisherman and a diehard fan of
the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 16th at 2:00pm at Chapman Funeral Chapel.  A visitation for family and friends will follow. Private Burial will be held at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.
