James 'Junior' Grantham, 86, of Brunswick, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2023, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 28, 2023, 11:00 am, at Chapman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harold Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Park Cemetery with Phillip Oglesby, Jordy Rewis, Ray Jackson, Hunter Grantham, Rudy Underwood, and Johnny Simpson serving as active pallbearers. The family will be receiving friends from 10:00am until service time, at the funeral home.
Junior was born September 24, 1936, in Nicholls, GA, to James Daniel Grantham and Carline Thomas Grantham. He was a 1955 graduate of Wacona High School, and served with the Army National Guard from 1956 until 1962. In 1966, he, along with his family, moved from Waycross to Brunswick, where he went to work at Babcock & Wilcox until its closing in 1982. After the closing of Babcock & Wilcox, he went to work at the Marine Port Terminal, retiring in 1999. Junior was an original founder of the Woodbine Opry, where he enjoyed playing his Dobro, he enjoyed fishing and gardening, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. Junior was a member and Deacon of Southside Baptist Church, where he also taught Sunday School for over 48 years.
Junior is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Grantham, children, Terry Grantham (Jenny) of Waynesville, and Sherry Robson (Phillip) of Blackshear, sisters, Juanita Curl (James) and Jeanette Jackson, all of Warner Robbins, Geraldine Earnhardt (Jimmy) of South Carolina, a sister-in-law, Tillie Grantham of Bickley, GA, grandchildren, Phillip Oglesby, Misty McDaniel, Tayler Davis, Nick Saunders (Josie), Andy Saunders (Samantha), and Matthew Saunders, great grandchildren, Michael McDaniel, Dalton Robson, Hunter Grantham, Chloe Grantham, Maxwell Saunders, Blythe Saunders, Emery Saunders and Lilly Saunders, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Lamar King, and his brother, Jackie Grantham.
