Obituary

James Rufus Holland, 81, of Brunswick, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022, at his residence.

The family will hold a private service at a later date, with inurnment to be held at Palmetto Cemetery.

James moved to Brunswick in the early 1970's, after serving with the United States Marine Corps, and became the head cook over the Mess Hall at NAS Glynco, and traveled to different military bases operating and organizing Mess Hall's for the military.  Since living in Brunswick, he was the Founder of the Altamaha River Keepers, and was involved in several television documentaries, and numerous newspaper articles.  He enjoyed fishing and loved photographing nature and wildlife.

James is survived by his children, Judy Goodman, Katherine DuBose (Gary), and James Holland (Angelia), all of Brunswick, a brother, Quincey Bass of Florida, grandchildren, Jennifer Crews (Chad), Lisa Howard (Joe), Teresa Townsend (Albert), Candis Holland, James Allen DuBose (Hannah), and Kaiko Holland, great grandchildren, Olivia Crews, Hunter Crews, Cassie Crews, David Crews, Alexus Howard, Allison Howard, Brandon Howard, Alyssa Townsend, Dale Townsend, Scotty Sheppard, Zack Sheppard, Evelyn Holland, and Kiseki Holland.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sumiko Sakamoto Holland, and a son-in-law, Alvin Goodman.
