James Holt, of Brunswick, GA, passed away on July 17, 2024. James was
born on February 14, 1955, in Fukuoka, Japan, and was preceded in death
by his parents James David Holt (1995) and Tommie Kiyoko Holt (2001).
He is survived by his daughter Kristen Holt of Muscle Shoals, AL,
granddaughter Mary Blasingame of Flat Rock, AL, and grandson Carter
Hanson of Muscle Shoals, AL. Surviving siblings are Patricia (Rick) Land
of Brunswick, GA, John (Michelle) Holt of Powder Springs, GA, and Kathie
(Kenneth) Carroll of Brunswick, GA.
James was a 1973 graduate of Brunswick High School and a 1977
graduate of Georgia Southern College, majoring in math education. He
also attained his Master's degree in education from Armstrong State
College and many other certifications in education. James' teaching career
included teaching math and coaching debate at Brunswick High School,
McIntosh County Academy, and Camden County High School. He also
taught math at the College of Coastal Georgia.
James enjoyed teaching and leading students throughout his career. He
led many students to national recognition in debate and speech. He was
inducted into the Georgia Forensic Coaches Association Hall of Fame and
served on many state and national debate and speech panels and
organizations over the last forty+ years. He also enjoyed participating in
trivia contests in the Brunswick area with his family and friends.
