James Wesley Lyons, 78, of Waverly, passed away January 12, 2018 at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
Funeral services, with military honors provided by the United States Air Force, will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2018, 4:00 pm, at Chapman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Thrower officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time.
Mr. Lyons was born September 19, 1939, in Nahunta, GA, to Norman Lester Lyons and Mary Ann Willis Lyons. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a veteran of the United States Navy, and was retired from the Georgia Air National Guard, serving during Dessert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church, an avid bowler, having bowled with the Young in Spirit Bowling League, and the Thursday Morning Coffee League, and a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 691.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel M. Lyons of Waverly, step-children, Jerry Lane of Brunswick, Suzi Wiggins and Danny Lane of Hortense, a sister Faye Keyser of Brunswick, a niece, 2 nephews, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, W.O. Lyons, and Thomas Laverne Lyons.
