J ames Stephen Moncus, 70, of Darien, passed away Friday, January 27, 2023 at UF Health Shands in Gainesville, FL.
Steve was born August 15, 1952, to Selma Lane and James Theron Moncus in Brunswick. After graduating from Brunswick High School in 1970, Steve enlisted in The United States Army, serving his country during The Vietnam War. Steve continued to serve his community as a detention officer for The Glynn County Sheriff's Office until his retirement in 2019. A lifelong hunter and fisherman, Steve shared this love for the outdoors with his friends and family, making many memories along the way. As an amateur flat track motorcycle racer, he competed as a trophy winner into his 50's. His family knew him as a friend, provider, and a source of constant laughs and good times.
Cherishing his memory are his wife of twelve years Nancy Drury Moncus, his children Michelle Moncus, Christopher Moncus (Amanda), Michael Moncus, and step-son Dewayne Wainwright, his grandchildren Chance Moncus, J.T. Moncus, Daehven Ellis, Jaszie Kirksey, Eliana Moncus, and Caedmon Moncus, his brother Richard Moncus, his sister Lori Moncus, his great-grandchildren Jordan and Harmonii, and nieces Jessica Whitmer and Brandy Brooks.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held Friday, February 10, 2023 at 3:00pm at Chapman Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
