Obituary

James 'Jim' Wesley Adams, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, November 16, 2025, in Brunswick, Georgia.

Jim was born December 19, 1940, in Lima, Ohio to James Wesley Adams and Louise Doretha Sarber Adams.  He was a 1958 graduate of Blume High School in Wapakoneta, Ohio, and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Bowling Green University in Bowling Green, Ohio.  He was a veteran and commissioned officer in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War.  Jim was the owner of several successful businesses including a company that was at the forefront of merchandise sales using barcode scanning technology.  He was directly involved in the first commercial use of a bar code to ring up a grocery item (a pack of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit chewing gum) which occurred at the Marsh Supermarket in Troy, Ohio on June 26, 1974.  A replica of that pack of gum is on display at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.  Jim and his wife CJ relocated to Brunswick, Georgia from Punta Gorda, Florida and have lived in Brunswick for the past 20 years where they attended Golden Isles Parkway Church of God and enjoyed playing many rounds of golf. Jim also enjoyed target shooting and was an avid boater.  He was a huge fan of Jacksonville Jaguars Football and Formula 1 Racing. Jim was a member of the Brunswick Country Club, B.P.O. Elks 691, American Legion Post 9, and Delta Epsilon Fraternity.

Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, C.J. Adams and his dog Tiger Woof whom he loved dearly, his children; Paige C. Pressel of St. Simons Island, GA, Roland E. Fritzsche, Jr (Shelley) of West Alexandria, OH, Rhonda A. Fritzsche Fultz (Keith), of Dayton, OH, and Timothy P. Caudill of Lima, OH Grandchildren; Jamie Miller (Tyler) of Moraine, OH, Maisey Jenkins (Eric), of Findlay, OH, Draven Caudill of Kenton, OH, great grandson; Oliver James Jenkins, of Findlay OH. Sister; Judy Ammons of Port Charlotte, FL nephew; Patrick Ammons, West Milton, OH, niece; Kimberly Ammons of Orlando, FL, great nieces, Faith and Hope Ammons of West Milton, OH, and several other nieces and nephews.

A private Celebration of Life will be held for close family and friends on Monday, November 24, 2025, 1:00 pm, at Chapman Funeral Chapel with Rev Bobby Tatum officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia.
