Obituary

Jason Wayne Bennett, 50, of St. Simons Island, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at his residence.

Jason was born March 4, 1974, in Brunswick, GA, to Wayne V. Bennett and Jannette Faye McDowell Bennett.  He had lived in Brunswick all of his life, attending Glynn County Schools and graduating from Brunswick High School with the class of 1992.  While at Brunswick High, he lettered in Varsity football and baseball.  Upon graduation, he earned a football scholarship to East Tennessee State University, and Valdosta State University.  He attended East Tennessee University on a football scholarship, and then transferred to Valdosta State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.  He also holds a Master of Science in Post-Secondary Education from Troy University.  He was employed by the Glynn County Board of Education as a Math Teacher at Risley Middle School, and was a former assistant football coach for the Glynn Academy Red Terrors.  He was also a graduate of the 2007 Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce Leadership Glynn class.  He loved the out-doors, any kind of sports, including hunting duck, deer, and quail, and was a member of Ducks Unlimited.  Jason's life passion was his son Colton and University of Georgia football.

Survivors include his parents; Wayne V. Bennett (Debbie) of St. Simons Island, Jannette F. Rayhon (Cliff) of Waverly, a son, Colton Bennett of St. Simons Island,  a brother, Bryan Bennett (Bonnie) of Brunswick, nephews, Waylon and Carson Bennett, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents, Erna McDowell, William C. McDowell, Arthur R. Bennett, Ilavon Bennett, and step-grandfather, Roy Brockman, great grandparents, Bogie & Josie Bennett and Vernon & Mildred Hall.

Services to celebrate Jason's life will be held Monday, June 10, 2024, 11:00 am, at Chapman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jay Hanson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jason Wayne Bennett to any of the Football programs at Brunswick High School, Glynn Academy, or Frederica Academy.
