Obituary

Jay Muir McConnell, 93, of Brunswick, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

Jay was born November 23, 1929, in New York, NY, to Jesse and Agnes Muir McConnell. He earned his Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America in 1947 and graduated from Syracuse University in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in forestry.  He was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, VA, a member of the Society of American Foresters, and retired from the United States Forest Service in 1995.  Mr. McConnell was instrumental in creating scholarships for forestry students attending Syracuse University.  He had a great love for the out-doors and preserving the environment.  He was a very kind person, taking care of family and those close to him.  He was very interested in genealogy and ancestry and made great efforts in keeping in touch with his living relatives.  For his age, he was very good with computers and technology, which helped him find relatives all over the world.  Mr. McConnell had traveled between Fairfax and Brunswick since 2006, finally making Brunswick his permanent home in November 2022.
A service to celebrate the life of Jay McConnell, will be held at a later date in the Hudson Valley Cemetery in Hudson, New York.
Mr. McConnell is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beatrice McConnell, a son, William J. McConnell and his wife Dana, of Fernandina Beach, FL, granddaughters, Rachel Maguire and Dr. Lauren Tesh Hotaki, and a great grandson, Elias William Hotaki.
