John Richard "Rickey" Harris, Sr., born on September 25, 1951, in Waycross, GA, peacefully entered his eternal rest on August 12, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was seventy-two years old.

Rickey was a proud 1969 graduate of Camden County High School. It was during these formative years that he met the love of his life, Gwen Dowling. Shortly after graduation, they married, embarking on a journey of love and companionship that would span over fifty-four years. Their union was blessed with two children: John R. Harris, Jr. (Jennifer) and Karla Harris McLain (Shane). However, his deepest joy was found in his grandchildren: Marcus Harris (Kali), Ryan Harris, and Tucker McLain.

After dedicating seventeen years to a successful career with the Georgia Power Company, Rickey felt a profound calling to ministry. He made the courageous decision to leave his corporate career behind and pursue his true passion—pastoring. For nearly twenty years, he served as the pastor of Bay Harbour Church of God, a role he cherished deeply. Under his leadership, the church experienced remarkable growth, both in numbers and influence. He also served with distinction as the District Overseer for the Brunswick District Churches and held various positions on South Georgia Church of God elected boards.

Rickey is now reunited with his immediate family, including his parents, brother, and other cherished loved ones who preceded him in death.
A celebration of Rickey's life will take place at 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 15, at Bay Harbour Church of God, with a visitation an hour prior to the service.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the community for their overwhelming love and support, the Hospice of Golden Isles for their exceptional care, and Chapman Funeral Chapel for their invaluable assistance.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Rickey Harris' honor to the Church of God World Missions via Bay Harbour Church of God.
