Johnny Michael Newbern, 65, of Brunswick, passed away early Tuesday morning at his residence.
A service, to celebrate his life, will be held Friday, January 5, 2018, 4:00, at Chapman Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Mike Bennett, Rev. Joe Guthrie, and Rev. Billy Swain officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 3:15 until service time.
Honorary Pallbearers will be all of his past Martial Arts students, and Jesse LePage.
Mr. Newbern was born in Tifton, GA, May 9, 1952, to Odis and Dorothy Cherry Newbern. He had been a resident of Brunswick since 1994, and attends Golden Isles Christian Church. He retired from Bell South in 2004, and taught self defense with his wife and children, at Newbern's Self Defense with the Glynn County Recreation Department. Mr. Newbern was an avid runner, having ran 7 marathons.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Bennett Newbern, of Brunswick, a son, Clint Newbern (Maria) of El Paso, TX, and Aundrea Newbern of Brunswick, brothers, Wayne Newbern (Carol) of Jacksonville, and David Newbern (Peggy) of Unionville, TN, and grandchildren Kayla and Analeigh Newbern.
