Obituary

Joyce Ann Barwick, 77, of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Pine Haven Baptist Church in Brunswick, GA, at 11:00 a.m with Pastor Keith Powell and Pastor Chuck Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Interment will follow in Gardi Cemetery with Dustin Rentz, Justin Pryor, Roger Barwick, Dennis Lewis, Brian Hope, and Gary Turner serving as active pallbearers.

Joyce was born June 25, 1948, in Spencer, WV, to Paul Eugene Abbott and Mary Lou Brannon Abbott. A talented hairdresser for 54 years, Joyce brought beauty and joy to her community. She also devoted 33 years to Glyndale Elementary School, working with kindergarten students and touching countless young lives. She had a heart for working with children, and volunteered in the nursery at Pine Haven Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member. Joyce enjoyed reading, crocheting, and shopping. Above all, her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Julie (Jamie) Rentz of Brunswick,; her son, Larry "Bubba" Barwick Jr.; grandchildren Dustin Rentz (Lindsey) of Brunswick.; Brittney Pryor (Justin) of Hortense,; and Katie Rentz of Brunswick,; and great-grandchildren Cora, Charlotte, and Carter Rentz all of Brunswick.; Brother-in-Law, Eric Barwick (Marty) of Missouri. She is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Larry Barwick Sr.; her parents, her brother, P.J.; her parents-in-law, George and Cora Barwick.; Brother-in-Law Dennie Barwick(Joyce Marie).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause Joyce faithfully supported each month.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Antonio Moran and staff for his compassionate care and support throughout Joyce's battle.

Joyce will be remembered for her warm heart, her strong faith, her dedication to family and community, and the love she poured into everyone she met. Her presence will be missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
