Judy Poole Joines, a long-time resident of Brunswick, Georgia, died peacefully at her home on February 24, 2026. Born on February 15, 1946, in Tarrytown, Georgia, Judy spent her early years in Tarrytown, Uvalda, and Cedar Crossing before moving to Brunswick when her parents sought new opportunities in the city. She spoke often of the bucolic landscapes of her childhood and of her large and loving family which included many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Judy called the south end of Brunswick home, attending Southside Baptist Church with her family. Upon marriage, she became a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, sending her children to St. Francis Xavier Catholic School and serving as a substitute teacher there for many years.

A proud member of the Glynn Academy Class of 1964, Judy played clarinet in the band and sat first chair. She was a master seamstress, creating and professionally altering delicate wedding gowns, formal wear, uniforms, and garments for people across the Golden Isles. She was a talented business woman, managing her own sewing shop for many years. Judy was the Dispatcher and Office Manager for Alert Alarm Company for 28 years, faithfully serving thousands of clients until her retirement in 2014. Her tremendous work ethic was matched by her wonderful sense of humor that stayed with her all her life. All who knew her recall her love of hearing or telling a good joke, discussing local history, or recanting tales from her memorable childhood.

Judy is preceded in death by her mother, Maude Bailey Poole, and her father, Ernest Spurgeon Poole; two brothers, Ernest Odean Poole and Wayne Poole; two sisters, Rebecca "Becky" Poole Hope and Tina Poole James; her sister-in-law, Linda Marie Joines, who was like a sister to her; and her beloved son, Michael "Mikie" Dahlmah Joines.

She is survived by three children: Jean Joines Strasser (Kevin), Leigh Joines Chapple (Ryan), and John Joines (Rebecca); four grandchildren: Olivia and Kyle Strasser, and Nathaniel and Gabriel Chapple; and her beloved sister, Deborah Poole Smith. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and their children whom she loved, as well as extended family who remember her fondly.

Judy wished to have her ashes placed near her beloved son, Mikie, near the Joines family plot in Palmetto Cemetery. The family will hold a private memorial service, and a celebration of Judy's life will be held on March 22, 2026 from 2PM to 6PM at the home of her daughter, Jean Strasser, with family and friends invited.

Judy lived a life marked by love for her family, humor, and storytelling. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Judy's memory be honored with a donation to the non-profit Glynn Academy Band Boosters, Inc. to support the local music programs she loved.
