Obituary

Katharine Foster Atkinson Adams, 96, of Waverly, GA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, in Nahunta, GA, at Bayview Nursing Home.
She is survived by her son, John Quincy Adams, and his wife; Sylvia Adams, of Waverly, three grandchildren, John Blake Adams (Candice) of Incacheetoo in Waverly, Sterling Katharine Rose (Dennis), and Benjamin Oscar Adams (Taylor), all of Waverly; eight grandchildren, Savanna Grace Adams, Anneliese Adams, Alexis Adams, John Quincy Adams, II, Sylvia Elizabeth Rose, Rutley Rose, Katharine Kennedy Adams, and John Henry Adams.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Quincy Bevier Adams from Molton, Iowa, her two sisters, Estelle Floyd Quarterman of Waverly, and Rosalie A. Jenkins of Largo, FL, and her brother, Dr. Samuel Carter Atkinson of Jacksonville, FL.
Katharine was born March 15, 1921, in Savannah, GA to Katharine Foster and John Franklin Atkinson. Katharine was a 1938 graduate of Glynn Academy and a Graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelors Degree in Business. She was later employed in accounting at NAS Glynco. Katharine was a long time member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Woodbine, and a lifetime member of Waverly United Methodist Church in Waverly. She also served on the Board of Department of Family and Children Services, Brian Lang Historical Library Board, and the Waverly Garden Club.
Katharine achieved many things, but, perhaps her greatest passion and accomplishment in life was to love and be loved by her family. She impetuously won over the hearts of many, the moment you were graced by her presence. She displayed elegance in all aspects of her life. She was selfless in every way, and upheld the most admiration from all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and forever cherished.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, February 8, 2018, at the Waverly United Methodist Church, with Reverend Jim Dirst and Reverend Bill Ligon officiating. Interment will follow at Homeward Cemetery with John Blake Adams, Benjamin Adams, Dennis Rose, and Matthew Hollingsworth serving as active pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will include James Russell, Charles Russell, Lowell Adams, Nathan Adams, Gene Hollingsworth, William Smith, III, Dr. Malcom Wright, and the staff of Bayview Nursing Home.
The family will be receiving friends at their residence, 5:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening, 2477 Old Dixie Highway, White Oak, GA.
