Obituary

Lavette Opaline Westberry Johnson, 87, of Brunswick, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024, at her residence after a long battle with cancer.

Lavette was born in Wayne County to Melvin and Burnell Westberry on August 29,1937. She was a 1955 graduate of Wayne County High School.  She was a bank teller at American National Bank, and later was a cashier at Harvey's Supermarket and Winn Dixie.

She is survived by her children; Dean Clark, David Clark (Becky), all of Brunswick, Cindy Robbins (Mike), Robbie Johnson, all of Jacksonville,  grandchildren; Andrew Clark (Cheryl Callaway), Stephanie Dawkins (John), Rusty O'Quinn (Cassie), Candace Clark, sisters; Gladys Ogden (DeWayne), Eunice Westberry, all of Jesup, Irma Hart (Phillip) of Odum, Kathryn Lane of Jasper, AL, brothers; Royal Westberry (Dianne), Alvin Westberry (Cindy), Herbert Westberry (Patricia) of Jesup, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Johnson, brothers, Homer Westberry and Donald Westberry, and a sister, Margaret Copeland.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 5:00 pm at Chapman Funeral Chapel, with a service to follow at 6:00pm. Reverend Bruce Miller will be officiating.  Albert Copeland, Bobby Lane, Shelton Westberry, Brad Hart, Don Westberry, and Michael Westberry will be serving as pallbearers.  A private burial will be held at a later date in Palmetto Cemetery.

Chapman Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
