Mary Eleanor Conaway Spell, 94, of Brunswick, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2024, 11:00 am at Chapman Funeral Chapel, with Donald Pittman officiating. Burial will follow at Palmetto Cemetery with Trey Fouche' III, Robbie Thomas, Kody Thomas, Zach Spell, Matthew Tyre serving as active pallbearers. The family will be receiving friends, at the funeral home, from 5:00 until 7:00pm, Monday April 29, 2024.
Mary was born June 20, 1929, in Tifton, GA, to Henry and Lainey Florene Marchant Conaway. Coming from Ty Ty, GA, she had lived in Brunswick for the past 74 years. In earlier years, Mary was a Hostess and Waitress for The Deck Restaurant, and was owner and operator of the former Spell's Grocery. She was also co-owner of J.C. Spell Construction, and a member of the Pilot Club of Brunswick. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include her children, Donald Spell (Christy), Demetria Spell Fouche', a Daughter-in-law, Sandy Spell (Willie), and a Son-in-law, David Kemp, all of Brunswick, a sister, Linda Hunt, and, a Sister-in-law, Eloise Andrews Harrell, both of Florida. grandchildren, Jocelyn Thomas (Robbie), Cheri Boyd (Mike), Shanan Usher (Shane), Marquita Kemp, Zack Spell, Miranda Sailors (Shannon), Crystal Spell, Trey Fouche', III (Annie), Carly Spell, Shaylyn Hasting (Tyler), 14 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Spell, sons, Nathaniel Spell and Randy Spell, a daughter, Careatha Kemp, son-in-law, Ernie Fouche', her mother, Florene Pittman, her father, Henry Conaway, her brother, Carl Conaway, a sister, Dot Harper, and a granddaughter, Angel Spell.
