Obituary

Maudelle Lazaro Thompson, 87, a resident of Darien, McIntosh County, Georgia passed away Friday morning, January 2, 2026, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.


Maudelle was born on September 9, 1938, in Brunswick, Glynn County, Georgia, to the late John Gomes Lazaro, Jr. and Julie Ester Moseley Lazaro.

Maudelle attended Glynn County Schools and was a 1956 graduate of Glynn Academy. After graduating, she married the love of her life, Gerald Marcus Thompson on June 14, 1958, in Brunswick, Glynn County, Georgia.  They resided in Brunswick and Darien all of their life.  She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

Maudelle was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Marcus Thompson, and her parents, John Gomes Lazaro, Jr. and Julie Ester Moseley Lazaro

Survivors include: sister, Juliette Lazaro of Brunswick, Georgia; daughter, Tammy Galin Thompson Lomis (James Bruce Lomis) of St. Mary's, Georgia; son, Gerald Marcus Thompson, Jr. (Lisa Elizabeth Pickren Thompson) of Nicholson, Georgia; son, Gregory John Thompson (Stephanie Joanne Brown Thompson) of Brunswick, Georgia; grandchildren: Benjamin Sterling Allen (Vanessa Marie Hall Allen) of St. Mary's, Georgia; Bethany Candace Allen of Livingston, Montana; Bridgette Logan Thompson Culpepper (Brandon Solomon Culpepper) of Morven, Georgia;  Haley Nicole Thompson of Sugar Hill Georgia; Mitchell James Lomis (Olivia Bryant Lee/Finance') of Augusta, Georgia; Gregory "John" Thompson, Jr. and Travis Joseph Thompson of Brunswick;  great-grandchildren: Shawn Michael Lake; Haylie Angelia Lake; Gavyn Bryan Lake of St. Mary's, Georgia; Boone Solomon Culpepper and Bellamie Leanne Culpepper of Morven, Georgia; several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

Maudelle was a loving, dedicated and devoted daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was very generous, giving of her time and talents.  She always put the needs of others ahead of herself. Maudelle especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Services to celebrate Maudelle's life will be held Friday, January 9, 2026, 6:00pm, at Chapman Funeral Chapel with Bishop Gregory J. Thompson with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating.
