Michael W. Stevenson, of St. Simons Island, GA, passed away September 28, 2021, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, GA.
Mr. Stevenson was born July 1, 1953, in Highland Park, Michigan and lived in Detroit area prior to his enlistment in the United States Air Force in January 1973. He served honorably and proudly to December 1976, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Stevenson was then an employee of the Pere Marquette (Michigan) Division of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway, being promoted from yard clerk to the responsible position of train order operator. He then became a 1986 Criminal Justice Program honor graduate of the University of Detroit-Mercy in Detroit, Michigan, subsequently completing 23 years of difficult law enforcement service in the Federal Government, retiring in 2010. A lover of his country, independent thinker, Life Member of the Air Force Association; proud of his Air Force affiliation. He loved the sky and things that flew. Devoted husband of his beloved 'bride' Marjorie, father to two sons; three grandchildren, Despite his advancements and achievements in life, he never lost the viewpoint of the common man. He bucked authority when necessary, detested wrong by act of commission or omission, and sought to right those wrongs whenever he could.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donation be made to No Greater Love at www.ngl.org., the disabled veteran needing help nearest the reader, or a local animal shelter. Mr. Stevenson loved his pets all his life and wants to return the favor of their unquestioning loyalty and devotion.
