Obituary

Ralph Heller "Jacky" Holliday passed away peacefully on May 27, 2018, at his home in Brunswick, Ga.

He was born on Jan. 5, 1942, in Anderson, S.C., to parents Ralph Hall Holliday and Eunice Heller Holliday. He called Brunswick home from the age of 12, and never had a desire to live anywhere else.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Dorothy Madray, for the past 52 years; two daughters, Beverly Price (Jack Jr.) and Christie Holliday; two grandsons, Ricky Cason and Jack Price III, of Brunswick; a sister, Patti Jordan, of St. Simons Island, Ga.; and a niece, Holly Jordan, of New York City.

"Jacky," as he was known to his many friends in the Golden Isles, fellow students at Glynn Academy and South Georgia State College, proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and Georgia National Guard. With good looks, a quick wit and something of a mechanical genius, he enjoyed passing his knowledge down to his two grandsons. Jacky had friends from all walks of life. A gentleman in every respect, a hard worker, he kept his own counsel, revered honesty and fair play and was deeply spiritual.

He was a successful businessman as owner of Holliday Trucking Co., which was instrumental in building many roads, causeways and golf courses in the Southeast. Even though he was always busy with his company, he found time to enjoy fishing in the local waters, cooking, particularly smoking chickens on his grill, and his garden. Jacky was generous, sharing the bounty of his garden with friends and family. Every year, a box or two of delicious tomatoes were carefully wrapped and shipped, and sent to his sister, in New York City. Stray animals always found safety and a home. Upon retirement, he used his intellect to study the stock market, and enjoyed trading favored stocks.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Chapman Funeral Chapel, with a graveside service at 3 p.m. Friday, Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens, 5775 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia, in Brunswick, or a charity of your choice.

The family is deeply grateful for the care and emotional support offered by Heartland Hospice.

Prayers of comfort for the family would be gratefully received. Jacky will be deeply missed.
