Obituary

Ricky Clarence Hilburn, 65, of Brunswick, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Southeast Georgia Health System - Brunswick Campus.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 8, 2026, 10:00am, at Chapman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerry Johns and Pastor Bill Alderman officiating.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with Robby Horton, Joe Owens, Johnathan Bunkley, Jacob Hamilton, Dave Smith, and Jim Thomas serving as active pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky's fellow law enforcement officers of the Glynn County Sheriff's Office.  A visitation for family and friends will be held at Chapman Funeral Chapel from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Sunday evening.

Ricky was born on September 26, 1960, in Adel, GA to Clarence E. and Gloria Montanio Hilburn.  He had lived in Brunswick since 1965, attending Glynn County Schools and graduating from Glynn Academy with the Class of 1978.  Ricky then went on to earn an associate's degree from DeVry Institute of Technology in 1982.  After College, Ricky began his Law Enforcement Career working as a Security Guard at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, then on to City of Brunswick Police Department, retiring in 1999 after 15 years, followed by 24 years as a School Resource Officer with the Glynn County School System, retiring in 2023. Being fully retired didn't sit well with Ricky, so he followed his heart, and went to work with the Glynn County Sheriff's Office, where he worked until June 3, 2026.

Ricky is survived by his wife of 32 years, Angel Hilburn, his brother, Randall J. Hilburn (Ruth) of Brunswick, nephews, Johnathan Bunkley and Jacob Hampton (Angela), a niece, Emily Stewart (Ryan), his mother-in-law, Melissa Bunkley and sister-in-law, Lisa Bunkley, both of Waynesville.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gloria Hilburn, and his father-in-law, J.W. Bunkley.

Ricky enjoyed shooting guns and saving all the stray animals.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia, or the Backpack/School Supply Drive sponsored by Sheriff Neal Jump and the Glynn County Sheriff's Office.
