Obituary

Samuel Ellis Cooper, Sr., 86, of Brunswick, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 21, 2022, 12:00 pm at Welcome Hill Church of Christ in Quitman, GA, interment will follow in the church cemetery with honors provided by the Unites States Navy.  The family will be receiving friends from 11:30 until service time.
Sam was born February 21, 1935, in Valdosta, GA to Clayton Lee and Mazie Downing Cooper.  He was a graduate of Morven High School, and a life-long member of Welcome Hill Church of Christ.  After graduating High School, Sam joined the United States Navy, where he proudly served for four years., after being honorably discharged from the Navy, he moved to Brunswick, and began his career as an electrician at Brunswick Pulp & Paper, retiring in 1997.  He was a former member of Jamaica Hunting Club, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved Blue-Grass music.  In his younger years, he coached his children, and numerous other children in softball and baseball.
Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Frances Cooper, their children, Tammie Cooper of Jacksonville, Sammy Cooper (Missy) of Brunswick, and Jinny Cooper (Mike Grow) of Palmer, Alaska, grandchildren, Clayton Cooper, and Conner Cooper, great Grandchildren, Nathan Beard, and Savannah Beard, and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, LG Cooper, and Rudolph Cooper, and a grandson Joshua Beard.
