Obituary

Spurgeon Ray 'Buddy' Tanner, Jr., 80, of Brunswick, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Memorial Health in Savannah.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021, 11:00 am, at Chapman Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Larry Daughtry officiating.  Burial will follow at Palmetto Cemetery with Dennis Varnedore, Kenneth Cato, Brian McDowell, Buddy Carlin, Dale Crooms, and Kevin Lane serving as active pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Krauss and Joey Carter.  A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, December 27, 2021, at Chapman Funeral Chapel from 6:00pm until 8:00 pm.

Buddy was born February 16, 1941, in Harrison, GA, to Spurgeon Ray and Nora Crooms Tanner.  He had lived in Harrison until the age of 17, when the family moved to Brunswick, and Buddy completed his Senior year at Glynn Academy.  Buddy was a member of Sterling Church of God, and was retired from Atlantic Neon Sign Company in 2008, but continued to work for Fendig Signs.  He enjoyed gardening and fishing, being outdoors, bee keeping, and spending time with his grandchildren.  Buddy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, he had numerous friends that looked up to him.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha Ann Tanner, their children, Rita Wick (Carey) of Gratiot, WI, Aubrey Tanner (Gail) of Brunswick, Teresa Griffin (Shawn) of White Hall, NY, and Amy Tanner (Joey) of Brunswick, grandchildren, Miranda Tanner, Joshua Tanner, Brandon Tanner, Michelle Cato (Kenneth), Ty Griffin, Justin Carter, and Ansley Carter, great grandchildren, Aden, Brayden, Izzy, Riley, Jerimiah, Jaylee, and Atlas, and a sister, Sally Dawson (Lawrence) of Brunswick.
