Obituary

Virginia Leotis Ricks, 93, of Brunswick, passed away at Homelife on Glynco, Thursday, April 24, 2025.

The Funeral Mass will be held Monday, April 28, 2025, 1:30pm, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Mark Van Alstine officiating.  Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery with her grandsons, Ryan Ricks, Taylor Sweeney, Eric Ricks, Austin Sweeney, Michael Ricks, and Samuel Ricks serving as active pallbearers. Glynn Academy Class of 1950, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and employees of Homelife on Glynco, will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will be receiving friends from 4:00 until 6:00pm, Sunday evening at Chapman Funeral Chapel.

Virginia was born November 26, 1931, along with her twin brother, George, in Brunswick, to Arthur Pondelee Leotis and Juanita Ryan Leotis. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from Glynn Academy, class of 1950. After graduation, Virginia attended the Harper Method Beauty School in Atlanta and worked as a Registered Master Beautician on Sea Island until she was wed. On April 15, 1956, Virginia married Ferman O. Ricks.

A gentle and kind spirit, Virginia enjoyed volunteering at the hospital as a 'Grey Lady', and the Red Cross Blood Mobile. She was a woman of faith and was a life-long member of St. Francis Xavier Church, serving as a St. Francis Xavier School Association chairman. In her spare time she participated in the Dogwood Garden Club, water aerobics, played bridge on Tuesday's and Thursday's, was a room mother, member of a Thursday morning bowling league and a long standing member of Beta Sigma Phi social sorority. Her greatest treasure was her family, and she will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother.

Virginia is survived by her husband of 69 years, Ferman O. Ricks, a son, Gregory C. Ricks and his wife Susan, of Savannah, GA, a daughter, Jeri Ricks Sweeney of Brunswick, a daughter-in-law, Dory B. Ricks of Conway, SC, grandsons, Ryan Ricks (Carolyn), Taylor Sweeney (Crystal), Eric Ricks, Austin Sweeney, Michael Ricks, and Samuel Ricks, granddaughters, Sara Ricks and Samantha Ricks, great grandchildren, Maddox Sweeney, Ervin Ricks, Adler Sweeney, Adria Ricks, and Siena Ricks, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Pondelee Leotis and Juanita Ryan Leotis, twin brother, George Arthur Leotis, brother, Pondelee Arthur Leotis, sons, Todd Michael Ricks and Cory Arthur Ricks, and a son-in-law, Mitchell Joseph Sweeney.
