Waunell James Baxley, of Brunswick, passed away May 15, 2026 at her residence.

Funeral service will be held at Chapman Funeral Chapel, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 3:00pm, with Rev. Darrell Joiner officiating.  The family will be receiving friends immediately following the service.  Interment will be held at a later date in Hardens Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Lyons, GA.

Waunell was born September 3, 1933, to Joseph and Freda Cowart James.  She was a graduate of Appling County High School, moving to Brunswick after graduation.  She began her healthcare career working as a CNA on 3North Surgical Intensive Care at Glynn-Brunswick Memorial Hospital, and later as an administrative clerk for Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus.  Waunell was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church.  She loved her pets and enjoyed working.  Even after retirement, to keep herself busy, Waunell worked on the Response Team at St. Marks Towers.

Survivors include her children, Vickie Lewis Fields, Mike Lewis (Donna), and Kelly Lewis (Karen), all of Brunswick, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Roderick Mimbs and a son-in-law, Judge James Perry Fields.
